headlights and wipers stop working when brake is operated

When i push the brake petal, the headlights turn off as well as the windshield wipers

I had that problem in my 96 Sonoma. It was a short in my cruise control unit. Especially if your turn signals, hazards, and windshield wipers are all controlled by a single lever on the left side of the steering wheel. A mechanic had to change my whole unit to fix that problem
