2001 ford explorer cranking problems

My 2001 ford explorer,  will not crank . Theft light is
on. Tried unhooking battery, turning key trick,
moving the shifter. What else can I do? Help
please.

My daughter has a 99 explorer. On her's you can cycle the lock,unlock back and forth a couple of times, ending up on lock while seated in the vehicle WITH THE DOOR CLOSED and it will start.
