What is my 1970 Merc Monterey worth?

Asked by rspiering Aug 20, 2010 at 07:12 PM about the 1970 Mercury Monterey

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Hello,
Recently my wife got into an accident with my 1970 Mercury Monterey.  It had a
rebuilt engine (its third time), an AAMCO guaranteed-for- life transmission, and
was fully functional.  Unfortunately after 300+ thousande miles, it had rust on its
frame and body.
The accident was not my wife's fault, so the other insurance company offered
$550 (and we keep the car) to total the car, with the rust being the reason for the
low figure.  This does not seem fair, since it was not a show car, but was in good
running condition.
Do you have any advice on how I go about demonstrating or establishing the
true worth of a vintage vehicle like mine?

unless it is equipped with a 429 or 429 cobra jet engine , probably not much . you can run the vin code , drivers side base of windshield and check what motor it has . unfortuneately I don't remember what digit the engine code is but the owners manual with tell you .
