dont know what engine you have, but i had to replace my thermostat housing, and decided to replace the termostat itself,as the old one was in bad condition. however, after a test drive, the engine became very hot too,and i found that the thermostat didnt open as required(80* C) ? I felt the hoses in the engine compt and the hose from the house to the front radiator was cold as ice= thermostat didnt open. i switched back, since then no problems.. hope it helps
