my car wont accelerate when turning or stopping. takes about a mile down the road to go back to 55mph.

Check the catalytic converter in case it is plugged up. A tune-up is probably also in order.

thanks for the suggestion just had a tune up, also idle is rough when starting. Egr valve unplugged. It seems that it only wants to stall after stopping or slowing down to turn the corner, then has an issue with accelerating back up to speed. Takes a bit of time.
