What transmission and motor can I use as replacments for a pinto 1975?

Asked by Dec 16, 2015 at 03:24 PM about the 1975 Ford Pinto

Question type: Car Customization

My nieghbor recently gave me his old 75
pinto he had it parked in the back yard for
about 2 years and needed it gone. The car
itself is in pretty good shape only problem is
that he sold the transmission and motor. I
dont know anything about this car and I
dont know what transmission or motor I can
fix it with and hopefully get it running.

I would look for a used engine and trans from another Pinto. Those were good engines as I recall and with some modifications they can be quite fast. The Capri and Granada also used the same 2.3 engine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Pinto_engine

The old 2.3 engine was nearly bullet proof. Should be no problem finding one at a salvage yard.

While the engine and trans might be bullet proof and readily available, you may want to study the 70's news releases about the Pinto's rear end collision deficiencies. You may choose to tell your neighbor to keep the car or donate it as an example of one that did not burn up!
