Weird Starter Problem When Engine is Warm
About a year ago we started having intermittent starter problems. When
turned to "on/run" the dash lights light up. But when turned to "Start" there's
nothing - no click etc. We took the car to the dealer but he couldn't replicate
the problem. THEN we realized the car always started when the engine was
cold. The problem was starting it after a short or long drive when the engine
was hot. We had to wait for it to cool down and then it started again. So here's
the weird thing. Yesterday when this happened, a friend looked under the
hood & said it looked like there was too much coolant in the reservoir. We
waited until the engine cooled. Sure enough, it was to the top up to the cap.
So we drained off some of the coolant in the overflow coolant bottle. Since
doing that, the car has started all day - whether the engine was hot or cold.
So could overfilling the coolant increase pressure or something else that
would interfere with the starter? It's so weird. Thanks!
