My speedometer isn't working

I took the cable off at the transfer case and spun it the gear and the needle moved. What do I do next? Tear the
transfer case out and see if there is a gear missing?

chances are the gear has stripped teeth or the cable adaptor housing is turned the wrong way .( the housing adaptor has an offset to it and if it is misindexed with the bracket the wrong way the gaer teeth wont engage each other . ) there also should be stamped on the housing a gear teeth range that particular adaptor will work with . if it's ouside the range on the small side ,the teeth wont mesh each other . you can also look in the hole for the adaptor and see if the teeth on the output shaft are worn . (they will have a groove worn into the center of the gear all the way around it . if that gear is bad the trans case has to come apart to fix it ... PBN
