Can you drive a car without a thermostat

Asked by Jan 17, 2016 at 08:44 PM about the 2000 Chrysler 300M

Question type: General

My car is overheating. I took the thermostat out and drove it to see if it would
still overheat.  It did!  So do I need a new thermostat?

If it was still overheating when you removed it, that isn't the part that is causing your overheating issue, unless there was still air in the system or you were low on coolant.

I just added coolant 2 days ago but it all leaked out somewhere but I don't know where

Sounds like a head gasket
