Reserve overflow cap popped off no indication of overheating

Went to car wash had car running well vacuuming all
of a sudden  overflow cap popped off  no overheating
on dash put water in it and try ed to get home  but it
went all the way to hot

I looked up the overflow tank cap the one on it doesn't look right it is the silver radiator cap with the red push down like button online it say radiator cap
