Can’t start car. New battery. Alternator was new. Any help?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So, I’ve got a question about an alternator
and codes shooting from ecm. I think my
alternator may be bad, as during a charge, the
cables were crossed. Would it be possible for
the car (2002 PT Cruiser 2.4L) to shoot an
error code of P0320 as a result? I had that
code and P1684 a few days ago while it was
down. Prior to being down it would stall once
it ran and heated up. I know that I had a stuck
thermostat and got it replaced. I got it to start
and drive for about a mile before it stalled
again. There was a major leak in one of the
radiator lines or perhaps power steering. I
corrected the issue and could get the car to
fire up and run, no problem. I didn’t leave it
run long and subsequently the alternator
couldn’t charge the batter and it died. Again,
the cables were crossed and I fried the
battery. I replaced it and now can’t get the car
to start. I thought maybe I’d check here before
I disconnected the alternator and ran to get it
tested. Didn’t want to create more issues I
can’t fix. Just looking for ideas as to the issue.
I’m not a car guy, if that wasn’t obvious. Just
figured I’d reach out, hopefully, to some
people who’d know better. Any help or advice
would be greatly appreciated.
