Question type: Maintenance & Repair

How do I reset the security system? The gear shifter moves but it doesn't engage the shifter cable /linkage. When the key is on and I push the brake the speedometer needle moves. Also, I can move the shifter without pushing the brake. The transmission is in neutral. Help!

Just to let you all know, there is a plastic clip on the shifter cable that broke so I replaced the cable and all is well.
