Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The battery is dead and I can't get access to the trunk. Is there a manual way to open the trunk?  I was told to look for a red plastic covered terminal under the hood but there isn't one and I couldn't find a terminal either.

Do you not have the key to the trunk, how do you get access to the cabin? The battery is under the hood unless someone mounted a remote battery in the trunk. The battery terminals are on the battery and they do not always have a red plastic protector covering the terminal. Have you ever seen a car battery before? You need a jump box as sometime using jumper cables can cause power surges and damage the computer. Positive (red) to positive + to + & - to -, negative (black) to negative. But if had to use jumper cables Hook up the dead battery first on the positive (red) side and then the negative (black) side terminal and then the good battery in the car that is jumping it off with positive terminal (red) first and then ( black) negative terminal second and then after it cranks, unhook the negative jumper on the dead battery first then the positive and then the same way on the other battery negative first.

All batteries to 2002 Thunder birds are in the trunk to my knowledge where did you get the information that 2002 batteries are under the hood?

Guru is right. I would try for another set of terminals under the hood. You tube may have a video on this. My son's Buick has batt under the back seat. I changed it out easily even with extra venting for battery gases.

There is a spot to manually unlock the trunk behind the drivers seat on the side panel. Just use your ignition key.
