Any oil in the coolant or coolant in the engine oil? White smoke?

Perhaps you just need to do a cooling system service. Make sure the cooling fans are working. Keep an eye on things as the North Star engines are notorious for head gasket issues.

What would make it get hot after 30 mins then cool down when I turn the air conditioning off
