my 1999 cadilac devill says its 188 in the car but i smell it hot is it the water pump or thermostate

It be either one, the thermostat or pump could give those symptoms. Normally if it's the thermostat one hose will be soft and the other hard..


Have it checked for a blown head gasket before you put any money in it. If it's a Northstar and is beginning to have overheating problems it's most likely going to be the head gasket and not worth fixing. All Northstars, sooner or later, blow head gaskets. You'll be looking at upwards of $3500 to fix it! For starters the engine and transmission both have to come out from the bottom of the car. There's NO other way to do the job. HTH. -Jim
