could be many places, but if it what i am thinking, it is complicated to get to. behind the exhaust manifold, and engine should come out to do it, but i could be wrong. make sure it is the pipe, and not the water pump, it is internal on it, and also hard to do.

Don't even bother with it. On top of what the other john said they also leak oil like its their job to do so. Any of the northstars and the 2.4l quad 4 engines are GM's red headed step- child engines and should be sent to the grave. All northstar and the 2.4l quad 4 engines are powerful for their size but are an all around pain in the ass.

northstar head gasket failure is between 13 and 15 percent you will find a lot of negative things posted on the internet about them because people tend to write more when they are mad about something my volvo 75 245 has had anorthstar head gasket failure is between 13 and 15 percent you will find a lot of negative things posted on the internet about them because people tend to write more when they are mad about something my volvo 75 245 has had bare minimum maintenace and almost no repairs and has 390,000 miles on it yet I have never taken the time except for now to mention it my 2000 deville is trouble free at 169,000 doesnt use oil or over heat it also gets over 26 mpg highway with a powerful v8 your best bet though is to becareful if you dont know whats up as t o take it to a mech. the northstars have a hose that I woulnt call a pipe running along the top of the engine bay right behind the top of the radiator it tends to chafe through if it isnt zip tied in a stand off fashion find out where its leaking before you buy it.

there are two water pipes that run along the back of the engine u can remove the front cradle bolts with a jack under the cradle ofcourse then loosn the back 4 cradle bolts do not completely remove the back bolts then let ur jack down some in the front this will allow u to gain access to the "water pipes" mostlikley its not the pipes but the green rubber hose connecting the pipes to the water pump manifold they also connect to black hoses going to the resivor also i bought a 96 deville with the northstar with 40.000 miles mantained it correctly when i sold the car it had 296,000 miles never had any problems ive had several since with headgasket problems but its usually because someone ran it hot the temp sensor controling fans are bad for going out causing them to over heat also the water pump belts break causing same thing if u get one that doesnt have an exiting headgasket problem and u properly maintain they can be very good and dependable engines

not a simple job . remove coil packs, remove reservoir, remove dog bones on front of engine. using a small ratcheting holddown strap pull the engine forward to gain access to the clamp bolts . remoe the hold down clamp from the cylinder head disconnect all the rubber hoses and remove pipes
