Lost my Explorer 2002 key

Asked by Jan 26, 2019 at 02:01 AM about the 2002 Ford Explorer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello, I lost my car key last week. I dont have
any other key, so I called a locksmith. He
made a new key (H84), it can open the car,
but it can not turn it on. He said that the
problem could be the alarm system (?). He
said that the scanner is not recognizing that
the car has two keys too. Can someone help
me? If I buy a Explorer key on the internet
and send it to a locksmith is it going to work?

You likely need a Ford dealer to program the vehicle to recognize the new key.

You can purchase a new lock/cylinder mechanism with programmable keys. The locksmith needs the electronic device to program the new keys to the vehicle. If you ever misplace one key, most hardware stores to make a new key as long as you have one left.
