Help! 2002 Ford Expedition will only accelerate in reverse will shift and roll forward but not accelerate. What can the problem be?

If the engine revs up when you try to go forward then the tranny is toast. have to tried manually selecting gears too see if anyone of them work? Sometimes 2nd gear will work when selected when none of the other will. Either way its going to be expensive.
