The turbo was developed outside of Fiat, by an American company... It is however considered one of the most thought out and well planned turbos created in this way, with full factory support. It is well suited to the engine (which is still produced new today! And has had turbos, superchargers and other attachments in its history) being neither too peaky nor over-boosting. It wasn't designed to have max psi airflow, but to be a solid reliable performer. I see no issue with the turbo as long as it has been properly maintained. I have a book around here someplace and can look up further information if you require... The car is so undervalued that its easy to buy and have some extra money for work or upgrades.... hope that helps?
