Recently my 71 F1 hundred was driving
down the road and acted as if it ran out of
gas. I had accidentally put about 8
gallons of gas regular unleaded with
ethanol in it and thought that would be OK
to run through the system. I suspected
that I might've run out of gas so I added
three more gallons of regular unleaded with
ethanol. When realizing what I had done I
drained the fuel tank by siphoning out as
much as I could get out. I added 5
gallons of 100% pure gasoline used carb
cleaner to clean the carburetors best I can.
Now when I try to start it it will only fire up
for a few seconds burning off the carb
cleaner. Any suggestions would be helpful
Check the fuel pressure, it should be like 3.5 to 6 lbs.
Sound like the fuel pump went bad.
ethanol fuel is hard on the rubber components of any vehicle that has not been upgraded to run the stuff, so like Rowefast stated the fuel pump is most likely toast, it will then be followed by small rubber pieces plugging up the fuel filter, that will be your fuel hoses disintegrating.
