1981 Lincoln Mark VI

Asked by Kathy Mar 17, 2018 at 09:27 AM about the 1981 Lincoln Continental

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This car had gas in it for 4 years without being
started.  I drained the old fuel, replaced fuel filter,
fuel return relay, fuel pump. Car will run fine, then
all of the sudden is starving for fuel.  I have to
continuously pump the gas pedal to keep it
running.  Then, if I shut it off it won't start.  Then
sometimes can go out after a day or so and it
starts.  Then same problem.  Plenty of fuel coming
from the tank.

Fuel injected (TBI) 5.0, correct? Maybe check the throttle position sensor. Assuming there are no mechanical defects with fuel delivery.

Haven't gotten to check the throttle position sensor yet. Also wondering if possibly the O rings that are shown on the fuel injectors are shot, being as it sat so long with the fuel going bad. Will post what we find. Just haven't had time or funds to work on it again.

I have a 1981 Lincoln Continental Mark 6 and I was having starting problems and I thought it was a starving fuel situation to but it turned out to be a loose wire in one of the relay harnesses on the fenders in the engine compartment I stuck a piece of foam in the loose wire relay and it starts fine now every time!

Thank you! Will check that also! Haven't messed with it in awhile. We got frustrated. We are going to attempt to fix it again.
