Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently got a 1972 lincoln continental 2dr
coupe i got it to start once after rebuilding
the engine and after shutting it off it would
not start again i can hear a slight clicking
from the fire wall. Im currently trying to
replace the ignition switch but am having
trouble getting the steering column apart
any advice would be greatly appreciated!

sounds like the ignition is doing it;s job if something's clicking , probably the solenoid those old fords had starter solenoids separate from the starter , things need to be tested unless you want to replace things for the hell of it , make sure the batt, terminals are tight

I think i found the answer, one big ass melted wire that was run directly to the starter that was good and nestled away. Ill repair it and keep yall updTed to the answer.

Well i repaired it and it made a loud clubk like the starter was moving but whent back todoing the same thing guess ill move on to replacing the starter.
