I don't think there is any way of really knowing how many are left. I'm sure there are alot that are just sitting rusting away in people's backyards or barns and other's that just aren't registered or have license plates in their state. You can checkout http://grantorinosport.org/ford_reg_1.htm as they have a registry for Rancheros. According to Ranchero USA's production figures there were 9911 1978 Ranchero 500's produced so not as rare as you think unless their figures are way off but I doubt it. There were only 908 Ranchero Squires built that year, maybe that's what you were looking at. You can get a Marti report on your car at http://www.martiauto.com/ to actually find out how rare your 500 is with the options and equipment, etc. that your car has. A good place to checkout other Rancheros is the Ranchero Club at http://www.supermotors.org/clubs/rancheroclub/ and Ranchero USA at http://www.ranchero.us/ You can also checkout http://www.supermotors.net/clubs/rancheroownersofnorthamerica/registry/ Good Luck, Kenny / MrBlueOval

From what I've been told about the ranchero's vin number is the all the numbers after the engine letter is the number in sequence this one was made. Mine is number1588. Going by vin #.

the 77-79 ranchero is the same interior as the t-bird and the LTD2 of ther same years. there was not center console for the last years of the ranchero. so if you can find a bucket seat set from one of the 3 cars your good to go. one thing you will need is the studs that are needed. your bench seat only has the 4 outer.. you need the 4 inner.

I need to find out about my husbands 1979 Ford Ranchero GT Brougham. How do I tell of all that were made of this edition, what his is.

crice648110 Look up Marti reports. Not sure if they cover 1979 cars or not but if they do they can give you a lot of information on your Ranchero.
