2003 Ford Ranger no start issue suspect PATS

Asked by Aug 28, 2019 at 12:42 PM about the 2003 Ford Ranger

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 Ford Ranger 2.4L manual transmission with standard locks, windows and seats. The anti theft light on the dash also stopped blinking after I replaced the starter (engine started initially after replacement and still checks out good). Immediately afterwards, there has been an apparent disruption (to the PCM?)  when the key is turned to the on position. Battery good, starter relay good. The (sole) ignition/door lock key appears to have a FOB. Question: can I reset the PCM code with the addition of another key or is it mandatory to have the codes erased and re-coded by the dealer? Thanks for your response(s).
