unplug the battery pull out headlight knob both clicks from under the dash just beyond where it ends, carefully reach fingers up along the side of the headlight switch and feel for a release button. Button is on steering wheel side of light switch. Hold down button and gently wiggle knob completely out

Thanks -- knob shaft works normally when switch is out of dash, but slides in and out with no clicks when switch is in dash, like release button is held down (it's not). How to fix this? Thanks, David

Maybe check clearance around button. Lots of squirrely wiring nearby could wander down and get pinched between release button and wiper switch. Otherwise, maybe just worn out. $20 autozone

Thanks, Thadius -- Clearance around button is okay. Switch works with 2 clicks and turns lights on and off when out of dash. No clicks -- shaft slides freely -- when in dash.
