Why is my 2008 Envoy temp gauge working erratically, causing the check engine light to come on and when it is working the check engine light will go off?

sometimes my temp gauge works and sometimes it doesn't.  when it doesn't
work the check engine light comes on. even though I have had the temp
gauge sensor replaced.

There may be a broken wire at the connector to the temperature sending unit.
