I have a 1967 Ford Fairlane 500, and the alternator is overcharging the battery. I have ordered a replacement Autolight external voltage regulator. Do I need to make any adjustments to the replacement external voltage regulator, or should it work properly and decrease the alternator wattage right out of the box?

If it's set properly at the factory, it should require no adjusting. You may want to check the voltage with a voltage meter after installing to ensure the voltage is around the 14 volt range when running.
