1985 Toyota Pick Up - Stalls when idling, little acceleration/power

Asked by Kimberly Oct 25, 2016 at 07:40 PM about the 1985 Toyota Pickup

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck made a big popping noise when going up a hill and wouldn't run. Then
got a carburetor rebuild and it runs, but stalls when not warmed up and when
idling on low gears, and has very little acceleration. Mechanics have looked it,
so all filters, ect. have been examined. What is the problem?

Is the ignition timing set correctly? Have you tuned up the truck recently? It is possible that you have a vacuum leak from a loose hose or the accelerator pump is not working properly. Those carburetors are VERY complex and they are hard to rebuild properly. Weber aftermarket retrofits will probably make your truck run better than new.
