Automatic Transmission

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2002 NM Pajero has a transmission that will not, when in neutral, rotate in
the reverse direction. That is turning the transmission output in reverse. It turns
forward fine. Is this a feature of the transmission or is there a problem.

I need to find out before I put the transfer case back in.

I think you misunderstood my question. The engine is turned off, the transfer case has been removed from the car. Neutral is selected so park is not engaged. The transmission output shaft can be rotated by hand as if it was going forward but can not be rotated in the reverse direction as if the car was reversing. Is this normal?
