Asked by JEYC210 Nov 28, 2015 at 07:43 AM about the 1980 Nissan Skyline

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Dear sirs,  I'm having the  problem whereas, it starts at first but dies
immediately, afterwards, its starts to crank slowly...uneven cranking....but
then one day while was on highway.. at high speed.. the engine dies just like
that... after few attempts, failed, i took the liberty in replacing the carb..
(same model) Nikki downdraft carb.. car did able to run more than 170km's..
then appears to be uneven at idle.. it changes radically... hoping someone
could help me with this...   Example, after drove around 3000 rpm, speed
about 90km/hr, when i stepped on clutch, the engine idles poorly, then dies.
Checked on, fuel input in carb, new fuel pump, new spark plug, new
sparkplug wires.  Tq. in advance sirs

Car model Make : Datsun Model : Skyline C210 ( 180K some countries) Year Made : 1980 Engine : L 18 ( Inline 4 Cylinder, 1.8 ltre, Nikki Downdraft Carburetor )

I dont know if you already trashed the car but my guess is that the timing belt F***ed up your valves, or just the air intake/exhaust. Pobably a build up of s**t in your pipes. But idk man seems to me that 30+ yr old cars have to go some day. Hope I helped you in a way. Theres always calling a local mechanic to see whats going on, anyway hope I helped you.
