shifting transfer case

I  recently bought a 1976 Toyota fj40 landcruiser.   
car runs and drives with transfer case shifting
between 4H...N...4L.      Can't get the lever to move
forward from 4H to 2H.    Any suggestions.    is
there a lock out pin?

you really need to go in reverse for a good bit trying to shift it at the same time.it was a down fall.
