Car wont stay running

Asked by Michael Aug 10, 2014 at 02:52 PM about the 1974 AMC Javelin

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Starts then acts like not getting gas
and dies. Only idles right a couple
seconds and only if it sets for about a
day. Fuel pressure to carb is good and
has clean gas and good air flow no
vapor lock im told. Im not entirely
mechanically inclined...

Have you checked the float in the carb? Has is sat undriven for a while? If it has take the back of a screw driver and lightly tap on the bowl area of carb. If float is stuck this might just break it free.

It was runnin smooth i was drivin home then it just started to stall and died. I drive it every day the engine has a fresh professional rebuild with less than 1000 miles

Just a thought. Might want to check if any of the plug wires might have fallen onto the exhaust manifold and are shorting out.
