Ford 2004 ranger won't start ..

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Won't start...lots of battery power...everything
works lights, stereo ...turn key and nothing..what
can be the cause or causes !?

Check power to starter and solenoid switch. Also make sure security isn't engaged.

I looked at info for 3.0L engine. If your saying the starter motor won't crank, check the partial wiring diagram. Terminal 30 at the starter relay is fuse protected and hot all the time. Unplug the relay, use a test light on terminal 30, if it is hot, use a jumper wire between terminal 30 and terminal 87, the starter motor should crank if wiring circuits and starter motor are ok. If you try that make sure tranny is in park or neutral and parking brake is set. I'm not saying it will start, but, should crank. Whether or not it will start, depends on the problem. Try using the jumper wire with the key on, dash lites are on, it might start? Just to add, your security system may be starter motor disable.

Fault DTC B1601- Large metallic objects, electronic devices on the key chain, a second key on the same key ring as the PATS ignition key may cause starting problems and record DTCs under certain conditions.
