What about the temp gauge when a meltdown occurs?

Asked by Gregori May 08, 2013 at 03:28 PM about the Nissan Patrol

Question type: General

I own a 2001 Patrol 3.0 di. Mine has 195000 km on the clock and is running fine. I hear all
the bad stories about these engines exploding without any warning. One thing is not clear
to me and that is also my question. Does the temp gauge show the overheating
happening  to the engine. Are people just ignoring the temp  and keep driving, or the temp
gause does not reflect at all the situation.

Thanks Tom. The question remains if people who had the engine meltdown sudenly and without warning, where actually warned by the temp gauge or not. Its to bad having your engin melting and the temp gauge shows just normal. But is this the case?
