CHECK ENGINE GROUNDS AND ADJUST...
My 65 Bird had the same problem. The ground cable was tight and the battery to starter was tight... so what was wrong? The actual starter cable, which is a stranded wire only had 2 strands that were making contact. The others were broken and not making contact. Check ;it
Check your points
Come on now... what do the points have to do with the starter just clicking?
check the ground cable to the engine. and make sure u are getting 12 volts to the start side of the solenoid from the starter switch there is not much to a ford starter wiring make sure that the battery cables are clean have been working on ford for 50 years
I have the same car. Jump the starter and if that works look into your ignition switch. Just because the connections are tight doesn't mean they are clean and making a good connection.
