My 65 Bird had the same problem. The ground cable was tight and the battery to starter was tight... so what was wrong? The actual starter cable, which is a stranded wire only had 2 strands that were making contact. The others were broken and not making contact. Check ;it

I have the same car. Jump the starter and if that works look into your ignition switch. Just because the connections are tight doesn't mean they are clean and making a good connection.
