Refitting rear seat backrest

Asked by Aug 31, 2019 at 03:25 PM about the 1964 Ford Galaxie

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500Xl two door vehicle.
I have been trying and trying to figure out how to
get the rear seat backrest in place, so far the
project is causing me some grief, but the neighbor
is learning a lot more " Adjectives"!
Any help you can provide would be greatly

The rear seat cushion should hang on two hooks, one on each side of the car. Then at the bottom there should be two bolt holes, one on each side of the car to secure the cushion to the body. Hope that helps! Jim

Thanks man. The "issue" I have is the center speaker which cannot be removed, well, it can, but once the rear seat is in place the speaker then cannot be re-fitted! I see the "butterfly" shaped hooks alright and the two corresponding bolt holes at the bottom, but try as I/we/us have been pushing, and shoving, trying different angle the mother*****er still will not fit back in place!

So I'm assuming that the seat has been reupholstered. From your description it sounds like maybe the upholstery shop put too much cushion back into the rear seatback making the cutout for the rear speaker grille too small. Maybe you can take the seatback and the speaker grille back to the upholstery shop and they can make a larger cutout for the speaker grille. Hope that helps! Jim

Thank you for your input. No, the seat is original, I have (I hope) attached some photos.

The back seat.

The "Butterfly" type of suspension hook.

The wire support for the "Butterfly" type of suspension hook.

The bracket on the floor , for the seat securing.
