Yes they had turn signals back then. They were combined with the brake lights circuits, when you turned on a signal and applied the brake it cancelled that side of the rear brake light and made it flash with the front turn light. Sometimes the turn signal switch would fail and then either the signal would not work or the brake lights would fail.
