It should. YOu may have to reflash the PCM with the program for the 2004. Just make sure all the electronic connections are the same and you bring along any sensors for the 2004 the 2001 may not have.

Will a 2000 model SOHC engine from a explorer fit a 2004 explorer with a 4.0 SOHC also
