I have the chance to buy a 2004 Ford
explorer. All It needs is body work,
the lady said she drove it as a daily
driver, it was recently inspected last
year. She says it runs and drives
great and has been very relible. It
has 170,000 miles on it. She wants
around $800 for it. Should i buy it?

At 170,000 miles things will start to go, but for 800 if you get another year out of it you will be ok, because you can get 500.00 scrap for the car...that put you 300 in the hole but u would have driven it

if the body work is the rust then it's not worth fixing on a $800** vehicle . If the body work is dings and dents then you know they didn't take care of it at all .

800 is what you call a beater with a heater. Run it into the ground, you'll get your money out of it, then resell it, scrap it, or junk it. I would still inspect the engine with a critical eye for head gaskets, timing chains, and excessive burning oil.

All you are risking is $800 so use your best judgement. If you get 20,000 miles out of it you got a bargain! Offer her less!
