2004 Ford Explorer Won't Start After Minor Accident

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2004 Explorer XLT spun out in the snow, hit an embankment, and then tipped over on the driver side.  Because of the snow I wasn't going fast so the damage appears to be primarily body damage to the driver side but the car won't start.  It won't even crank over.  The key turns, the dash display comes one and then nothing...silence.  We checked the Fuel Cutoff and it never popped so it doesn't seem to be need reset.  Any other ideas about what it could be?

I have been searching for something--anything-- that laying on it's side will cause a no-start. The only thing that makes any sense is if the electrolytes dripped out of the battery, giving you enough power to light things up, but not enough to start. Other than that I came up empty..sorry. But it's worth a look-see, make sure battery 'water' is over all plates.

Did any engine oil leak out while on it's side? Could it have run all over electrical components? Could water or dampness have infiltrated the electrical system while on it's side?

Try using a meter while someone turns the key to see if electricity is getting to the starter. If no, begin checking backward.
