http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Torino --- it might but I doubt it. The most obvious change for the 1973 model saw was a new front fascia, required to meet new federal regulations. The new regulation mandated that all cars manufactured after September 1, 1972 must be able to take a 5 mph (8.0 km/h) strike to the front without damaging safety related components such as headlamps and the fuel system. For 1973 only, rear bumpers had a 2.5 mph (4.0 km/h) requirement. The Torino's front end featured totally new sheetmetal from the firewall forward, with a blunt, more squared-off fascia replacing the previous year's pointed prow. The new large square 5 mph (8.0 km/h) energy absorbing bumper replaced the almost body-fitting chrome bumper used on the front of the 1972 Torino. The new larger bumpers caused all Torino models to increase in length by at least 1", and weight also increased by at least 100 lb (45 kg) for all models.

So the fender contour will not match at the door an the frame rails won't support the older front end?

The doors will match up. The frame is likely the same, too. The mounts for the front bumpers bolted onto the sides of the frame rails. I believe the front fenders of a 73 Gran Torino are the same as the fenders on a 72. If my memory serves, the plain 73 Torino did not have side markers in them, as the turn signals wrapped around the corner of the header. That is likely the only difference. Change the bumper mounts and header, and you should be good to go.

The 72 front end will bolt to the 73+ Torino, Ranchero etc, but the bumper will not. I own a 73 Ranchero with a 72 front end with the Sport hood. The frame mounts for the bumper differ on 73-79's. I cut the front frame snout from my 73, and a 72 donor frame, and swapped them. After that one change, the 72 bumper bolts on easily and the fender etc, all matches with it.
