If your car is a manual trans there won't be a dipstick, there will be two plugs on the tranny, a low for draining and a high for filling, to check fluid level on a manual trans you remove the upper plug and stick your finger in the hole, careful you don't cut yourself, and if you can touch fluid you have enough if your finger comes out dry add fluid until it just starts seeping out.
