removing camcover vectra c ecotec petrol engine

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

having suffered a water pump failure causing the timing belt to break i was forced into changing the rollers, belt tensioner and water pump, this is now done. the engine will rotate 360 degrees no problem, she fired up and i cut the engine straight away, so all appears well (have I been Lucky?) checked the timing and found it's out by one tooth, reset ok,now I would like to check the cam for cracks on the lobes.
I am not sure if this engine type has the weak followers that save the engine from massive damage ? but would feel more at ease if I could check it out.
recap.
I tried to re start the engine but she didn't fire up.hmmm.
Vaxhall vectra c pre face lift, eco tec petrol 1.8 cc, manual gearbox, hatch back

cam cover off and the cam's are looking good also all the valve cups are moving without any sign of sticking ,replaced cover and then turned her over . She fired up and will run at high revs, will not tick over (or idle) so now back to basics, Recheck the cam and crank timing. Could I have damaged the pickup sensors crank or cam? back outside to check it out Merry Christmas to you all.
