My chevy surbuban transmission doesn't engage in reverse right away and over drive isn't engaging

Try full service unless its never been serviced before in that case your out of luck as a service/fluid change will do more harm than good if miles are high. It is a sign that the trans is going out most often. Drive until it does and then replace it.
