Lost keys for 1992 chevy lumina

Asked by Jan 03, 2018 at 07:15 PM about the 1992 Chevrolet Lumina

Question type: General

The lock smith is telling me it's going to be
about $300 to make a new one. I'm just
wondering if anyone knows if chevy made
the same key for every car in that model or
any suggestions anyone might have to fix
my problem. Thank you.

For a '92 Lumina, you don't have a chipped key. All you would need is a key to be cut to match the lock cylinder. $300 is just crazy. Call another locksmith and get a price quote before they come out. Should be around $50-100 I would think. Heck, you can install a new lock cylinder and it comes with a key for same price.

Tom is right. There's nothing special about your key. No chips, no security system, etc. Have the lock cylinder replaced and be on your way. But use a shop, not that locksmith. He's trying to get over on you!! HTH. -Jim
