Can someone please help me???....got a tigra 98 auto running fine until i put a new cigarette lighter in it (it didn't come with one and no instruction not to get one!!!!!) but now flashing s light on dash and it seems to hav gone in to limp mode??? Its very sluggish can anyone tell me what has happened and how to fix it and if anyone knows how much??? really appreciate any ideas :((((

That power outlet was probably fused for charging a cell phone or a tomtom gps or the like. A lighter draws a lot of juice.but I don't see how it would do all what you describe, But check/change the fuse for that power outlet and see what happens, it may be on a circuit with other things, then get your OBD codes scanned.

OK I was thinking you put a lighter in a socket that was already there?

It could have been a new lighter in an existing socket. I was thinking about a new socket and lighter install. Either way, they draw a lot of power and will take out fuses of less than 20 amps.

Yeah, he didn't say either way. The ones the put in cars nowdays were never meant for lighters. My car doesn't even have an ashtray

Ok guys thank you so much for your answers :) i didn't rewire anything just put a new lighter in to old socket and suddenly after the flashing s came on and the automatic gears don't work oh and the speedo has also stopped working from the forums iv read alot of people are saying its the auto gear box selector switch and its about 300 quid to fix!!! im hoping it is just the fuse as it seems too coincidental that it was running perfect until i did this!!!......also im gonna sound really stupid but im a new female driver how wud i know if the fuse has blown??? OK I am going to show you a picture of a fuse box, do as best as possible to pinpoint fuse, and if as a fuse is blown you can see the very small conductor broken inside and usually it will have a brown spot. But just replace the fuse regardless, 79 cents maybe.

There are a couple. I also had a very difficult time pinpointing which fuse. You may have to pull them out one at at time until you find a blown one. Or, you could actually replace all the fuses, it would not cost you that much, USE A FUSE PULLER, if there is not one clipped to the fuse box, buy one. Pliers can/will break the fuse plastic then you are stuck trying to get the prongs out, a real hassle

Or it will look like this, one or the other for your Vauxhall. Is there any other electrical components that don't work, to help me find which fuse it is? BTW, nothing you have said 'sounds stupid. that is the only way to find out anything, ask.

Umm the speedo doesn't work now?? Stopped at same time And great that it isn't the gear shifter that's relieved me thanx for this ;)

Couldn't find a fuse specifically for the speedometer. Is it a digital speedometer or a needle/dial?

A needle dial is the spedo thing and just checked all fuses 2 yellow 20 amp fuses have blown can i ask u aswell this is first time iv come across fuse box but there are some missing does that sound right?? That there are some empty holes??

Most fuse boxes on many cars have 'unused' slots for fuses, when the factory uses the same box for a car with options not on your car. Just because they are empty does not mean anything is wrong.

Its fab i didmtg know there were forums like this i think its absolutely great :) i didn't know wat on earth was up last nite i now feel atleast i know how to spot a blown fuse and change it!!! Just on way to garage now to get new fuses will let u no how i get on :) so u r in america the wow bet the weather is hot over the pond!!!!! lol its raining here in England lol :)

There are plenty of guys on this forum that know more than I do...you just happened to hit when I was around. Glad I could be of help. Sometimes, like you see above, we get in to a little extra banter..just chat,(it gets way worse sometimes) but it's not like we get paid for this. I live in California, and you probably think Palm Trees and beaches..yeah, along the coast sure but where I live it is 38F as I write. And there are lots of forums similar to this one, but you better have your credit card ready, they charge as much as $25 for answers. But there are other free ones too, especially the car specific enthusiasts. But I think this one is best.

Most defo yes came across few sites i had to make a donation to get an answer!!!!.......just been and bought two new fuses cost me 1:79 pence and now no flashing s ofdoom. whoppie i seriously cannot thank you enuff cannot tell you how much you have saved me plus iv learnt quite a bit how to change fuses for one lol thankin you kindly sir :)
