Fuel pump issues

Asked by Gordytrblshoots Mar 29, 2019 at 03:35 AM about the 1993 Chevrolet Suburban

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A client has a 93 Suburban that was
not getting any fuel at the throttle
body, eventually determined that the
pump was running backwards!
I checked the pigtail at the pump and
found power at the black wire, which
is normally ground, and ground at the
gray wire that is normally power.
Has anyone experienced this before?

GuruTP8T1, I had a 93 Suburban that had no fuel pressure at the throttle body after the guy had installed a new pump. A listen at the filler pipe showed the pump was running but not delivering any fuel! After dropping the tank i found the pump was running backwards as well. For some reason still unknown to me, the gray wire is now the ground and the black wire 12 volts! I simply cut the pigtail and spliced it backwards onto the pump. How this could occur with the wiring still in the factory configuration I may never know, I would be forever grateful if someone can enlighten me. Thanks
